Historical meeting: The Avon Historical Society will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Old Town Hall of 1871, Detroit and Stoney Ridge roads. John Mercer will speak about Lorain County's Civil War Gen. Giles Shurtleff. For more information, call Delbert Fischer at 934-6106.
Seniors meeting: The Avon Seniors Inc. will hold its February meeting at Tom's Country Place on Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. After the meeting, the group will be entertained by the Avon High School choir. Marie Mayton will have special refreshments for Valentine's Day. Also, Pass It On will pick up gently used clothing or household items. For more information, call Jane Richard at 934-6944.
Guild meeting: The Isabella Guild of Knights of Columbus will host a presentation by Sharon Hargrove titled ''Bloom Where You're Planted ... Or Transplanted,'' on Feb. 23 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Avon. There will be a meet and greet at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation starting at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $8 and $9 at the door. French Creek Nature Center events:
Learn about backpacking on Saturday [2-5-05] from 10 a.m. to noon. A representative from the Backpacker's Shop will discuss the latest equipment, destinations and more.
