WISCONSIN HISTORICAL
LANDMARKS
Product Description
Students will research and author a description of a local
Wisconsin official historical marker. Each description should contain
accurate historical information and may include the wording from the
marker. Students may choose to elaborate on the significance of the
historical marker as it relates to their community and our state.
Goals (what students will know and be able to
do)
- Understand the history and significance of the historical marker
- Engage in the research process
- State clearly an information question
- Determine possible sources and locate relevant information
- Gather, organize and interpret information from more than once source
- Record sources of information
- Conduct interviews to acquire information about the significance of the marker
- Gather and interpret primary source information such as photos
- Create and publish documents that tell the story of their historical marker
- Include historically accurate information
- Identify and use appropriate grammar, sentence and paragraph
structure, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling
- Cite sources
- Elicit support or feedback on student writing from others
- Incorporate Internet links relating to the relevant history or community
- Try to integrate an interactive component
- Use a word processing program
- Create and/or select meaningful graphics
- Reflect on experiences of the project (what student has learned)
